5G network
The fifth generation mobile network, offering faster data and lower latency than 4G.
5G is the latest mobile network technology, offering significantly faster data connections and lower latency than its predecessor 4G. In Finland 5G networks already cover the major cities and are expanding continuously. 5G theoretically allows speeds of up to 1,000+ Mbit/s, but in practice typical speeds are 300-600 Mbit/s.
A 5G subscription requires a compatible phone or device. New phones generally support 5G. Outside the 5G coverage area the device automatically falls back to 4G, so there are no gaps in service.
In Finland 5G subscriptions are reasonably priced - the cheapest start at around 20 EUR/month. The biggest benefit of 5G is in areas where 4G is congested (city centres, events) or if you use a lot of mobile internet.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a 5G subscription?
For most uses 4G is plenty. 5G is worth it if you live in a city, use a lot of mobile internet or want lower latency for gaming and video calls.
Does 5G work everywhere in Finland?
5G covers the major cities and is expanding all the time. Outside 5G coverage the phone automatically switches to 4G.
Does 5G cost more than 4G?
5G subscriptions are usually 0-5 EUR/month more than equivalent 4G ones. With some operators the price difference is minimal or non-existent.
