eSIM
A built-in, digital SIM that requires no physical card. Switching is done remotely.
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a SIM card built into the phone or device and activated digitally with a QR code or via the operator's app. Unlike a traditional nano-SIM, an eSIM does not need to be physically swapped - changing subscriptions or adding a new one is done remotely.
eSIM's biggest advantage is flexibility: you can keep several subscriptions in the same phone (e.g. work and personal), switch operator without changing SIM, and activate a travel subscription remotely when abroad. Newer iPhone and Samsung phones support eSIM.
In Finland all major operators (Elisa, DNA, Telia) support eSIM, and Moi supports it on DNA's network. Activating an eSIM is free or inexpensive (0-5 EUR). Moving from a physical SIM to eSIM does not require a number change.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between eSIM and a regular SIM?
A traditional SIM is a physical card, while an eSIM is built into the phone and activated digitally. Both work the same way - the only difference is how they are activated.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Most iPhone and Samsung models released after 2020 support eSIM. Check support in your phone's settings or on the manufacturer's website.
Can you have two subscriptions in the same phone with eSIM?
Yes. Most eSIM phones support dual-SIM: one physical SIM and one eSIM, or two eSIMs. You can use both at the same time.
