Annual electricity cost
How much does electricity cost at 5,000 kWh a year?
5,000 kWh a year costs about 929 € a year on spot electricity (77 €/month) and 959 € a year on the cheapest fixed-price contract (80 €/month) at today's prices. The figures include energy, the seller's fees, distribution and electricity tax, all with VAT.

Spot is about 30 € a year cheaper at this consumption when prices stay at the last 12 months' average.
What makes up the bill?
The spot energy price is the realised average of the Finnish price area over the last 12 months (6.84 c/kWh). Margin and monthly fee are the median of the spot contracts in the comparison. The fixed price is the cheapest contract on sale now, Huoleton (7.89 c/kWh). Distribution uses the grid operators' median tariff (4.12 c/kWh and 11.75 €/month); your own grid company may be cheaper or dearer.
| Item | Spot | Fixed |
|---|---|---|
| Energy | €342.00 | €394.50 |
| Seller's margin | €28.25 | - |
| Monthly fees | €65.34 | €71.40 |
| Distribution | €347.06 | €347.06 |
| Electricity tax | €146.00 | €146.00 |
| Total per year | €928.65 | €958.96 |
What about an expensive winter?
If every month cost as much as the priciest month of the last year, energy alone would be 861 € a year instead of the current 342 €. The spot risk is therefore about 519 € a year in the worst case, and shifting consumption to cheap hours reduces it.

Frequently asked questions
Is 5,000 kWh a lot or a little?
Our guides for a detached house, for a terraced house, for a summer cottage, for EV drivers cover this consumption level. A Finnish flat typically uses 1,500-3,000 kWh, an electrically heated detached house 15,000-25,000 kWh a year.
Why is the spot cost an estimate?
The spot price changes every hour. The calculation uses the realised average of the last 12 months, 6.84 c/kWh; the coming year may be cheaper or dearer. A fixed price is locked for the contract period.
Are distribution and tax included?
Yes. Distribution uses the grid operators' median tariff and electricity tax class I (2.92 c/kWh), both with VAT. You cannot shop around for distribution or tax, only for the seller's share.
